Ida&Billy Architects was found in 2013. The studio aims at resolving problems and creating architectural interest out of simplicity and an integrated whole, and emphasize on nature, art and humanity. Its first project, ‘Bridged House’, was awarded Japan Good Design Award, Global Design Award (Hong Kong Best) and HKIA Annual Awards President’s Prize. Ida&Billy Architects is listed on Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2018 which features 20 emerging architects selected from across the globe.
The founders, Ida Sze and Billy Chan, have a diverse cultural background of architectural practice in Basel, Beijing and Hong Kong, for Herzog & de Meuron, Steven Holl, Rocco Yim and Hong Kong Architectural Services Department before starting their own studio. Their project experiences cover houses, residential towers, institutional buildings, pavilion, clubhouse, museums, community center, stadium, as well as urban renewal. They believe in having caring attention to the requirements and characters of the programme, clients, users and sites to find out the individual projects’ meaning and potential. These meanings and potentials become a rich source of ideas, to be developed and experimented, to arrive at a genuine identity for each project.
